Ryan Adams, “Gimme Something Good” [starring Elvira]
Now Ryan’s doing something very clever here. For a certain generation Elvira trump the “stacey’s mom” bollock with genuine cleavage. For a young man finding his way, shall we say, Elvira was late night ultimate. As sexy as she was you were more likely to get a pat on the head and a cup of cocoa from her, while her crazy biker boyfriend waited downstairs with a bottle of Jack.
Elvira was host of a late night weekly horror movie slot on some Cali TV station, and was a wonderful corss between an old Hammer Horror Ingrid Pitt and some Valley Girl’s bondage mom. She was fabulous, and Ryan bring her into a pissed off Pettyesque rocker (complte with Tenchian Hammond and Mike Campbell chopping. THrow in a warm blast of vintage Michael Hutchence and you’ve got somethin’ good.
Sweet that Ryan Adams, still walking the line between dark country rock and movie star goth this is delicious. Ryan Adams rocks.
